Obituary of Billy Joe Shepherd
Graveside services for Billy Joe Shepherd, 95, of Bridgeport, Texas will be 2:00 pm Friday, November 20, 2020 at Boonsville Cemetery in Boonsville, Texas, officiated by Brother Gary Garrett and Frankie Mauney. Pallbearers will be Frankie Mauney, Ben Haecker, Keith Dunaway, Kirk Shepherd, John Thun, and Adam Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Sanders and James Hamilton. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Thursday, November 19 at Hudson & Torres Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Billy passed away Tuesday, November 17 in Decatur.
He was born in Tulia, Texas to Cas and Bettie (Sanders) Shepherd.
He proudly served in the Navy as a Seaman 1st Class in WWII on the US Picking DD685 (destroyer).
B.J. was a member of the Wise County Veterans Group. He took pride in helping build the Veterans Park in Decatur, and he was also a member of Roll Call.
He was a dairyman, a dairy show judge, a farmer, and racehorse owner. He also dabbled in the oil and gas industry.
He was a member of AMPI (Associated Milk Producers Inc.) and a director for the American Jersey Cattle Club. He was a director and officer of the Texas Jersey Cattle Club for over 20 years.
He was a member of Oak Tree Baptist Church of Poolville.
Those still here to cherish his memory are brother Guy Shepherd, sister Hazel Rhoades, son Joe Michael Shepherd and wife Earlene, grandson Nick Shepherd and wife Belinda, and great-grandchildren Olivia and Sadie, grandson Micky Shepherd and wife Jennifer, and great-grandchildren Madeline, Lindsey and Mason; granddaughter Paula Fippinger and husband Zach; step-daughter Kellie Ross and husband Terry; granddaughter Amanda Cox and husband Brian, and great-grandchildren Hunter and J.T.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepson Gary Womack, and brothers W.J. ‘Jack’ Shepherd, Kenneth Shepherd, and Don Shepherd.
